“But where there is danger, grows the power to rescue.” Holderlin
Normally there are hardly any competitions in the Summer months. It’s different this time. For months, the competitions are less because of the Covid-19 crisis. As we slowly and cautiously emerge from lockdown, we’re looking for ways to compete; better: we’ll create some ourselves! So found on the Lucerne Allmend on July 3, 2020 as a replacement for “Spitzenleichtathletik” the “Invitation Meeting” of Swiss Athletics and on An “Internal” meeting will take place on July 4, 2020. The LCL Masters didn’t want to be left out, but tried to set up a small meeting with their own resources. This has now become «the little Lucerne International»!
And since English is the main language of Athletics, it’s called “International Lucerne Masters Throws Pentathlon”.
Ten men and ten women from six nations and two continents met on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at the Allmend throwing facilities in Lucerne. The judges consisted mostly of Guido’s training group, LCL runners and LCL members. Throwing specialist Eric Bohner from Bern was the Swiss Athletics referee.
Beautiful weather accompanied the twenty athletes in their five events on the throwing facilities, who are used to excellent performances. In this context, it should only be remembered about the long javelin throws, but also about Nicole Zihlmann’s hammer Swiss record of 67.42 m in top athletics in 2017, resp. 2018 remembered.
The women’s victory went to Marianne Maier, W75, from Austria and the men’s to Lorenzo Locati, M65, from Italy. Although Lorenzo is also a member of LC Luzern, this time he started for his home club Monza. Marianne Maier is one of the world’s greatest master track and field athletes of all time; she is multiple World and European Champion, world and European Record holder, among other things in theHeptathlon, over the hurdles, etc. Her best discipline has recently become the shot put, in which she still achieved the highest number of points today. However, the European hammer throw record holder Connie Hodel, W55, learned from TV Olten that not everything can always go according to plan when she failed in the weight throw: 0 points! Our multiple Masters World and European Champion Mägy Duss, on the other hand, managed a promising competition, although she is struggling with injuries. At the end everyone enjoyed a pizza from the Accademia restaurant and wished and promised to see each other again at the next International Lucerne Masters Throws Pentathlon.
