Masters SM 2022 Throwing Pentathlon

Saturday, October 1, 2022. Cloudy and raining at times and max. 15°. SMA and LCL organized the 1st Throwing Pentathlon and Weight Throwing Masters Swiss Championships at the facilities of Allmend in Lucerne. The hardcore Masters Throwing Pentathletes ventured once again to the Allmend at the end of the year. The group of ILV and LC Lucerne helpers, and judges were also supported by referee Fritz Graber. Lord of the rings (facility and equipment manager) was Guido Troxler, hammer coach of LC Lucerne. The two U16M boys, Petar Lisinac and Tobi Karlsson threw AK (out of competition) and had their first experience in the throwing pentathlon. The throwing pentathlon and the throwing weight did not (yet) exist in the active and younger categories.
Most athletes acheived the required standard to win a medal (or prize). Not the best of luck for Connie Hodel and David Erard who ended the competition with three zeros each in the hammer throw. Both missed the title, David even by a mere 3 points.

Several Swiss Masters records also fell:
– Margaritha Dähler-Stettler W75 with 10.52m in the Weight Throw 4kg;
– Jerzy Krawczyk M75 with 8.63m in the Weight Throw 7.26kg;
– David Erard M45 with 10.57m in the Weight Throw 15.88kg.

In the pentathlon, Petar Lisinac, U16M, who is still much too young for the Masters and therefore competes out of competition, achieves the highest score of all participants with 3645 points; in the Masters women’s competition, Margaritha Dähler-Stettler, W75, achieves this with 3563 points; in the men’s competition, Albert Luder, M65, swings to the top with 3512 points, as in the Winter Throw 2022 Championships. In the future, the WMA will introduce new age factors and this will give the opportunity to adjust the standards and to finally create the all-around and also the throwing pentathlon record lists. We are on it.
At the end there were some small snacks at the award ceremony. To the participants it is clear: Alea jacta est.

Report and Results

Farewell to Hans Kälin

In November, those who have passed, are commemorated on various days, which is why it is called the month of mourning. This November 2022, this is especially true for us. After Kaspar Brunner left us in the middle of the month, Hans Kälin followed at the end of the month.

Hans Kälin was over 100 years old. Hans Kälin practiced the profession of adit and tunnel builder, which has become rare in Switzerland today. In this profession he traveled all over Switzerland. But everywhere he went, he was actively involved in the local sports clubs; especially in athletics, to which he remained loyal for a lifetime as an athlete, judge, referee, patron and finally as a senior, later called Masters. Hans Kälin was also a talented heraldist and graphic artist.

Nationally and internationally, Hans participated in many championships and was able to celebrate many successes, especially at the Throwing Special Sports Championships in Tata, Hungary, to which he traveled together with Hans Brunner every year. Unforgettable were also the many trainings and small competitions together with the LCL-Oldies group, which usually ended with a social gathering.

Athletics, LC Lucerne and Swiss Masters Athletics mourn the loss of a great person and sports comrade.

The Lucerne Athletics Club and Swiss Masters Athletics mourn the passing of Kaspar Brunner

An outstanding sports comrade has left us. After countless victories, the strong man could not win his last, suffering fight. Last Tuesday, November 15, he was released from his suffering.
Kaspar Brunner was versatile and involved in many associations. Coming from a national gymnastics background, he discovered Athletics in his senior years and was able to use his immense strength not only in the throws, but also to soar over the high jump bar at the age of 80. Nationally, he won many titles and internationally he participated with success in the Throwing Special Sports World Championships in Tata, Hungary, where he stood several times on all the podiums: especially the Stone Throw, which he knew well from national gymnastics, which was his domain. In classic track and field, he won his last national title in 2018 in the hammer throw in the M85 category. The record lists of Swiss Masters Athletics show his diversity, as he has the best marks in the shot put, hammer throw and javelin in the M80 and in the shot put and hammer throw in the M85 category. Indirectly, Kaspar Brunner also promoted Youth Athletics: He also enjoyed taking part in the annual sportsman awards of the city of Lucerne, where the club receives a considerable financial contribution from the city of Lucerne for the titles won, linked to the promotion of young talent.
Athletics, LC Lucerne and Swiss Masters Athletics lose a great friend in Kaspar Brunner.
